I hadn't been interested in WoW until their open beta, where i stumbled upon (by luck i assume) a group of people that liked going out on pvp raids - and would normally find some opposition after you terrorized countryside for a bit. The grinding to level wasn't that bad when the raids were a nightly thing.

So, i actually went out and bought the game.

However, the daily raids started dropping off to every other day, to every week to never at all.

Instead, everyone spent their time grinding up their levels and (eventually) raiding instances pve rather than doing anything pvp - since i didn't much like the instanced zones in the game i rarely did those raids, and as such my level 60 paladin quickly became gimped vs his contemporaries. That and blizzards policy of waving the nerf bat around haphazardly eventually made me disgusted enough with the game to give up and cancel my account.

Searched around for some alternatives, got guild wars preorder box and here i am.

Heres to hoping they keep the nerf bat in reserve.

The infamous nerf bat, one of the reasons I have been majorly discourged in mmorpg's to the point of quitting.

I considered playing WoW a whole... 20 minutes. I had heard about Guild Wars from one of my friends and got hyped over it as soon as I learned that Arena-net has the orginal minds behinds Starcraft and Diablo. I checked it out and had it pre-ordered before the BWEs even started. I just gave my friend's pass to my SSG and I hope he will play it.

What really drawed me to GW was the whole system of being able to change and not being stuck with one build the entire game. I also enjoyed the fact that more emphasis was placed on cooperation than any game I've seen before.

Arena-net further impressed me with the whole idea of BWE. Its truely ingenious. They achieved a crowd of those willing to buy the game and care about its outcome (not like many MMOs out there where people stay just for the free playing). It also gets people hooked onto the game to a point where they are talking about and thinking of ways the game can be genuinely improved. This gives time for the developers to work on the game instead of maintaining the servers for players for months. Arena-net further impressed me with their willingness to listen to people's suggestions. The post in the Riverside in with the suggestions post surprised me when I saw that Admin from the actual game posted. I've never seen that before.

Guild Wars is the game many RPG players have been looking for. It offers more Role-Playing and more healthy competition than any other major RPG before it. The Guild Wars Staff have perfected Guild Wars as the first (and probably only for at least a while) CORPG. The work behind this game is incredible and will be hard to match for a good long time.

*lowers pitch-fork and fire brand* "oh... he's one of us now"

I haven't played WoW, but from what I've heard, from reports of Guild Wars players, reading articles about it, and going to their forums and spying on them, it's not a great game. Infact, it sounds like it sucks. At least now that the standards have been raised by A.Net. Once you try a single beta weekend, I don't have much doubt that you'll stop paying that monthly fee and say "screw WoW... it sucks"

Honestly, I think one of the reasons why Arena net is going to be so successful with Guild Wars is that they treat the players more like people than cattle. I don't think some game companies see the importance of that. And yes, I'm heavy baised towards Guild Wars
